No Ordinary Night

For 10 years, Nuit Blanche has been one of the most anticipated nights of the year in Montreal. This insane night-without-end closes out the week long Montréal en Lumière Festival, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors, annually. The excitement leading up to Nuit Blanche is palpable, with enthusiasts racking their brains over how to fit as many of the city’s thousands nightlong events into their plans. Montrealers and our guests travel from one end of the city to the other in an exhaustingly exciting effort to do as much as we possibly can.

This year, one of our more noted stops was at the St. Sulpice Hotel in Old Montreal and despite being out until all hours, we couldn’t wait to rave about it this morning! Some friends visited the hotel’s event last year and boasted about their surprising stop, so this year we were not going to miss out. We’ve seen their private garden in all its splendid summer glory, but we were in awe with what they had pulled out of their hat for Nuit Blanche.

For the second year in a row, this swanky hotel has drawn a crowd through their elegant lobby, into their private garden for an array of dazzling fun. Starting at 6pm last night and going until 3 this morning, visitors trickled in and out of the hotel’s garden and were treated to an outdoor projection of the 2012 Cannes Golden Lions ads, a slick ice bar that was created just for Nuit Blanche and an exclusive exhibition of light sculptures created by renowned artist Jean-Claude Poitras.  Despite a chilly drop in temperature (and snow that doesn’t want to stop!), people were buzzing about, enjoying the hot wine and hot chocolate while having a great night. That is, after all, what Nuit Blanche is all about.  

The St. Sulpice may have been only one of many stops in our Nuit Blanche maze, but it certain did stand out. We can’t wait to see what they comes up with next year! What were some of your favorite highlights from last night?
