Since 2010, The Walking Dead has presented us with its grim outlook on a post apocalyptic world overrun by the walking dead. For five seasons survivors have had to do the unspeakable to keep themselves and their families alive. While the gore and guts keep us intrigued, it’s the core group of surivors who have been stumbling through the leveled landscape of society in hopes of finding shelter that keep us tuned in week after week. Their constant struggle is the beating heart of this insanely popular TV show which has seen viewship increase as each season starts. Success like this is practically unheard of anymore on telelvision so what’s there to do but create a spin-off and capitalize further on our hunger for zombies.
On August 23rd (this coming Sunday) we will see how the apocalypse began when the first season of Fear The Walking Dead bows on AMC. Set just before everything goes to hell in a handbasket, FTWD follows a modern family who have a hard time keep their day to day lives together as the dead start to rise, throwing a wrench into their day. Starring Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam-Carey as the core memebers of the unconventional family at the centre of the story, we will follow them as they discover what we already know about the lumbering disaster that awaits them. We will see them making the tough decisions for the first time and how hard some of these decisions will be. Consisting of six episodes in the first season, AMC has already ordered a 15 episode 2nd season set to debut in 2016.
Below is a trailer for the new series that is expected to eventually catch up with the timeline of the original series which will be back for a sixth season starting on October 11 this year.
